Hyderabad: Pawan Kalyan’s much-anticipated gangster action thriller, They Call Him OG, is on a record-breaking spree at the box office. Directed by Sujeeth, the film delivered the biggest Indian opening of 2025 on September 25, outshining Rajinikanth’s Coolie.

Record-breaking opening

The film grossed an estimated ₹100 crore in India on day one, including ₹25 crore from premiere shows. With this, it became the seventh-biggest opener for a Telugu film and the eighth-biggest opener for an Indian film domestically.

Globally, the film amassed a whopping ₹144 crore on its first day, surpassing Prabhas’ Saaho (₹142 crore). Of this, overseas markets contributed ₹42.50 crore. Its worldwide debut also outperformed Jr NTR’s Devara and Thalapathy Vijay’s Leo.

Day two slowdown

Despite the massive start, the film saw a 69.25% dip on day two, earning ₹19.6 crore nett in India. This took its two-day domestic total to ₹104.35 crore nett, according to Sacnilk.com.

Audience and critical response

A part of India Today’s review highlighted the film’s intense action:

They Call Him OG has some brilliant action pieces. There’s bloodshed on screen right from the first frame… Pawan Kalyan, as the stylish Ojas Gambheera, has a commanding screen presence that’s hard to look away from. Emraan Hashmi, as his prime nemesis, has a cardboard villain role.”

The supporting cast includes Prakash Raj, Tej Sapru, Priyanka Mohan, and Sriya Reddy, who add depth to the storyline.

Conclusion

With its thunderous opening and Pawan Kalyan’s star power, They Call Him OG has already cemented its place as one of 2025’s biggest releases. While the sharp day-two drop raises concerns, the film’s global momentum and fan frenzy suggest that its blockbuster run will continue in the coming weeks.
