Hyderabad: After a successful theatrical run, Peddi, starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, is set to make its digital debut. The sports action drama, directed by Buchi Babu Sana, will begin streaming on Netflix from July 9, 2026.
Released in theatres on June 4, 2026, Peddi emerged as a major box office success, reportedly grossing Rs 400 crore worldwide, making it the highest-grossing South Indian film of 2026. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics and audiences, the film enjoyed a strong theatrical performance.
Peddi OTT release date and streaming details
Netflix announced the film’s digital premiere through a post on X, sharing the official poster with the caption, “Aata maarocchu kaani, monagadu maatram maaradu,” meaning, “The game may change, but the hero remains the same.”
From July 9, Peddi will be available for streaming in Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Malayalam.
The Hindi version is expected to be released on Netflix at a later date, although the platform has not announced an official streaming date for the dubbed version.
The OTT release is expected to expand the film’s reach among audiences who missed its theatrical run.
Story follows an athlete’s inspiring journey
Set in 2016, Peddi revolves around a nationwide talent hunt launched by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports following India’s disappointing performance at the Olympics.
As part of the initiative, sports official Mr. Paiswal, played by Boman Irani, travels to Vizianagaram, where he discovers Peddi, portrayed by Ram Charan.
Peddi works in a jaggery unit in a remote village but is known locally for his extraordinary talent across multiple sports.
Intrigued by his abilities, Paiswal begins investigating Peddi’s background, uncovering his inspiring journey, struggles and deep connection with his village.
The film blends sports, action, emotion and rural drama, making it one of the biggest Telugu releases of the year.
Star-studded cast
Apart from Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor, Peddi features an ensemble cast that includes Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyenndu, Boman Irani, Ravi Kishan, Viji Chandrasekhar, Rajatava Dutta, Satya, John Vijay and Ajay Ghosh in key roles.
The film’s music, action sequences and performances contributed significantly to its commercial success at the box office.
Film courted controversy over portrayal of female lead
While Peddi was a commercial success, it also attracted criticism over the portrayal of Janhvi Kapoor’s character, Achiyyamma.
Several viewers and critics objected to certain romantic sequences, alleging that the character had been hypersexualised and that some scenes relied excessively on the male gaze rather than meaningful character development.
Following the criticism, director Buchi Babu Sana publicly apologised and confirmed that the controversial scenes had been removed from the film.
He stated that it was never the team’s intention to objectify or disrespect any female character and acknowledged the concerns raised by audiences.
Ram Charan calls Peddi one of his best films
Following the film’s blockbuster run, Ram Charan expressed gratitude for the audience’s overwhelming response.
The actor said Peddi had given him unparalleled love and affection and described it as one of the finest films of his career, even surpassing the global success of RRR in terms of personal satisfaction.
With its digital release now confirmed, the sports drama is expected to reach an even wider audience across India and overseas.
Conclusion
After becoming the highest-grossing South Indian film of 2026, Peddi is set for its OTT debut on Netflix from July 9. The Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor-starrer will initially stream in four South Indian languages, with the Hindi version expected to arrive later.
