Mysore/Mysuru: The 69th Filmfare Awards South 2024, held in Hyderabad, celebrated the best in South Indian cinema. The event brought pride to Mysuru with actor Poornachandra receiving the Best Actor (Critics) award in the Kannada films category for his role in “Orchestra Mysuru,” directed by fellow Mysurean Sunil.

Expressing his happiness, Poornachandra shared, “The journey of ‘Orchestra Mysuru’ is unforgettable. Despite commercial failure, the movie was embraced on OTT platforms. This recognition is a true blessing, and I’m thankful to the audience for their support.”

Joining the ranks of elite actors like Prakash Raj and Naveen Polishetty (Telugu), Jyothika and Jojo George (Malayalam), and Siddarth (Tamil), Poornachandra’s win is especially significant. Previously, he won the Best Actor Award at the South Indian International Movie Awards (SIIMA) for the short film “Patinga” in 2017.

“Orchestra Mysuru,” released during Sankranti last year, narrates the story of a youngster aspiring to become a singer, showcasing local talent and featuring music by Raghu Dixit. Poornachandra’s acting journey began with Rangayana’s theatre camp during his college days, mentored by Prashanth Hiremath. He has played diverse roles in films like “Tagaru,” “Popcorn Monkey Tiger,” “Daredevil Mustafa,” and “Badava Rascal.”

As he marks 10 years in the industry, Poornachandra looks forward to his upcoming films, “Maryade Prashne,” “Nimitta Maatra,” and “Anna from Mexico.”
