Prabhas, the Telugu cinema powerhouse, has once again demonstrated his box office prowess with his latest release, “Kalki.” The film has shattered opening day records in Telangana, amassing an impressive Rs 19 crore in net collections. This remarkable feat has eclipsed the opening day performances of recent blockbusters like “RRR” and “Salaar.”
A prominent distributor, speaking on condition of anonymity, revealed, “We’re witnessing history. ‘Kalki’ has set a new benchmark for Telugu cinema with its day one collections. It’s surpassed the previous records held by ‘RRR’ and ‘Salaar’, which stood at Rs 15 crore and Rs 16 crore respectively.”
The unprecedented success is attributed to the strategic scheduling of 10 to 12 shows in numerous theaters across Telangana. “The fervor among Prabhas’ fans was palpable. They turned out in droves, transforming theaters into celebration grounds,” the distributor added.
Preliminary reports suggest that Andhra Pradesh may have contributed an additional Rs 20 to 25 crore in net collections on the opening day. The film’s momentum is expected to continue in the coming days.
However, the distributor noted a nuanced reception: “While ‘Kalki’ has struck a chord with urban audiences in both states, its appeal in B and C centers hasn’t been as robust as anticipated.”
