
Prasar Bharati launches ‘Waves’ OTT app with Doordarshan, Aakashvani archives
New Delhi: Prasar Bharati, India’s public broadcaster, has unveiled its new OTT app ‘Waves’, offering users access to a range of live TV channels and an extensive archive of Doordarshan and Aakashvani content.
The app currently hosts around 40 live channels, including popular broadcasters like B4U, ABZY, SAB Group, 9X Media, and major news channels such as India Today, Republic, NDTV India, ABP News, and others.
A platform for clean and family entertainment
Navneet Kumar Sehgal, Chairman of Prasar Bharati, described the app as a hub for clean and family-oriented entertainment. Speaking on the sidelines of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Panaji, Goa, he said,
“The app offers not just entertainment but also services like news, games, films, and even an easy shopping facility via the ONDC network.”
Access to nostalgic content
A key feature of the app is access to Prasar Bharati’s vast archives. Users can revisit classic Doordarshan shows and iconic Aakashvani programmes, reliving the nostalgia of their childhoods.
Sehgal highlighted that the app aligns with Prasar Bharati’s vision of providing engaging content while maintaining its ethos of family-friendly programming.
Expanding India’s OTT landscape
With the launch of ‘Waves,’ Prasar Bharati joins the expanding OTT market in India, offering a mix of nostalgia and modern content to cater to a broad audience. The integration of shopping and gaming features further enhances the app’s appeal, setting it apart in the competitive streaming space.
