Actor Raashii Khanna agrees with the ongoing discussion about Bollywood drawing inspiration from South Indian cinema to ensure commercial success. However, she feels it’s time the industry reconsiders this trend.
Recently seen in the Tamil historical-horror movie Aghathiyaa, Raashii stressed the need for originality, especially since audiences now prefer unique content. With dubbed films easily accessible online and OTT platforms removing language barriers, she believes innovation is the way forward.
“While remakes are common, it’s clear that viewers want fresh stories,” she shared. “With the growing influence of OTT, there’s no excuse for repetitive content. We need to experiment with genres, as no one really knows what will work anymore.”
Having worked across Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu films, Raashii admires how each industry retains its cultural touch. “Every film industry has a shared goal — creating meaningful cinema. But regional cultures subtly shape their narratives. It’s beautiful how emotions stay universal despite the diversity,” she noted.
Speaking about Aghathiyaa, she said the mix of horror, thriller, and fantasy drew her in. Shooting horror was a challenge due to the imaginative demands, but it expanded her skills.
Despite the mental and physical toll of switching roles and languages, Raashii finds joy in the craft. “I see acting as an ongoing learning journey,” she explained.
Although once aspiring to be an IAS officer, she now embraces the unpredictability of acting. “What matters is the passion and dedication I bring. That’s what gives me strength,” she said.
