Actor Rajat Bedi, best known for his roles in early 2000s Bollywood films such as Koi… Mil Gaya and Jaani Dushman, recently opened up about an emotional phase in his life while living in Canada, and how a chance encounter with Shah Rukh Khan left a lasting impact on him. Speaking with Farah Khan for her vlog, Rajat shared how his long-standing connection with the Khan family came full circle when he was cast in Aryan Khan’s debut directorial project, Ba**ds of Bollywood*.
Getting emotional on meeting Shah Rukh Khan
Rajat recalled a heartfelt moment during a party in Canada where Shah Rukh Khan was present. “Once, we threw a party where Shah Rukh Khan was present. He called me to his private room, and the moment I saw him, I broke down,” he said. “He was shocked and asked what happened. I told him, ‘I just couldn’t handle it. It hit me — what am I doing in Canada?’ Even though I was producing Punjabi films, my heart ached for Bollywood.”
He went on to explain how deeply he missed the Hindi film industry despite his successful stint abroad. “I used to tell people, ‘Sir, if there’s anything suitable for me, please let me know. I want to make a comeback,’” he recalled emotionally.
How he bagged Aryan Khan’s debut project
Rajat then shared the story of how he landed a role in Aryan Khan’s debut project, Ba**ds of Bollywood*, which is being produced under Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment banner. “In December 2022, I got a call from Bonnie Jain, who is part of Aryan Khan’s team. He said, ‘Aryan wants to see you.’ I thought it was a prank! I laughed and said, ‘What? Shah Rukh Khan’s son wants to meet me? Why?’ Then Bonnie told me Aryan was directing a project and wanted me for a role. I couldn’t believe it. I literally pinched myself,” he said.
The actor described Aryan as “a sweet and respectful young man,” adding, “Aryan personally came to receive me at his office. You will instantly fall in love with him. Aryan didn’t just relaunch me; he gave my entire family a new beginning.”
Aryan Khan’s impact on his career and family
Rajat expressed immense gratitude toward Aryan Khan, crediting him for reviving his career and opening new opportunities for his children. “My kids, Vera and Vivaan, became overnight sensations. Aryan came into my life like an angel and changed everything,” Rajat said. “Maybe it’s the prayers of my parents and family that finally worked. Honestly, I never wanted to leave Bollywood. I just didn’t get the right roles. Ba**ds of Bollywood* came out of nowhere — like a miracle.”
His son assisted Aryan on set
Adding a personal touch to his story, Rajat revealed that his son assisted Aryan during the shoot. “My son was assisting Aryan during the shoot. It’s surreal because I also started my career alongside Shah Rukh Khan in Ramesh Sippy’s Zamaana Deewana. I worked with him for two and a half years — and somehow, he’s always been connected to my life in some way,” he concluded.
For Rajat Bedi, the emotional journey from sharing screen space with Shah Rukh Khan to being part of Aryan Khan’s directorial venture marks a full-circle moment — one that reflects perseverance, destiny, and the enduring bonds of Bollywood.
