RISHIKESH: Superstar Rajinikanth, one of India’s most revered film icons, has temporarily stepped away from his film commitments to undertake a spiritual journey in the Himalayas. The 73-year-old actor, known for his simplicity and faith, is currently travelling with a small group of close friends and spiritual companions.

Images from his visit to Rishikesh and surrounding areas have surfaced on social media, captivating fans across the world. The actor, often seen in his trademark simplicity, has once again reminded his admirers of his grounded nature and philosophical outlook on life.

Rajinikanth’s simple lifestyle in the Himalayas

In one widely shared photo, Rajinikanth is seen sitting by the roadside, eating a simple meal served on a partal (leaf plate). The image, free of any luxury or glamour, has struck a chord with his fans, who hailed his humility despite being one of the biggest superstars in Indian cinema.

Another photo showed him dressed in plain white traditional attire, interacting with locals and offering his respects to a priest at an ashram. He was also seen engaging in quiet meditation and conversations with spiritual teachers.

Fans flooded social media with messages praising Rajinikanth for staying true to his humble roots. “Even at the peak of fame, his simplicity is unmatched,” one user wrote on X (formerly Twitter). Another commented, “Rajinikanth is proof that spirituality and stardom can coexist beautifully.”

Visits to Rishikesh and Dwarahat

On Saturday, Rajinikanth visited the Swami Dayananda Ashram in Rishikesh, where he paid homage to Swami Dayananda Saraswati. He reportedly meditated along the banks of the Ganga River and participated in the Ganga Aarti, one of Hinduism’s most revered spiritual rituals.

The following day, he travelled to Dwarahat, a small town nestled in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand, known for its ancient temples and serene environment. Sources close to the actor said he planned to visit several ashrams and engage in spiritual discussions with monks and teachers.

This is not the first time the actor has travelled to the Himalayas for spiritual rejuvenation. Rajinikanth is known to take breaks from work to visit sacred places such as Rishikesh, Kedarnath, and Babaji’s Cave in Uttarakhand. He has often described these retreats as “essential for inner peace and self-reflection.”

A tradition of spiritual journeys

Rajinikanth’s connection with spirituality is well-documented. Over the years, he has openly spoken about his faith, meditation practices, and the importance of detachment amid success. His spiritual mentor is said to be Mahavatar Babaji, and he follows teachings from various Indian spiritual traditions, including those of Ramana Maharshi and Swami Vivekananda.

In past interviews, Rajinikanth has shared that his visits to the Himalayas help him “recharge the soul” and keep him grounded. “It is the one place where I find peace and clarity away from all the noise,” he once said.

On the work front

Despite his temporary retreat, Rajinikanth continues to remain highly active in cinema. He was last seen in TJ Gnanavel’s film Vettaiyan, where he played a police officer alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Rana Daggubati. The film, released earlier this year, received widespread acclaim for its strong performances and social message.

He also made a special appearance in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s ensemble project Coolie, featuring Nagarjuna, Soubin Shahir, Shruti Haasan, Rachita Ram, Upendra, and Aamir Khan. Currently, the actor is preparing for ‘Jailer 2’, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, which is expected to go on floors early next year.

Fans celebrate his humility

Rajinikanth’s latest spiritual journey has once again reaffirmed his place not just as a superstar but as a deeply spiritual individual admired across generations. His decision to live simply and stay connected to his roots continues to inspire millions of fans.

As one admirer aptly said on social media, “He may be a superstar on screen, but in the Himalayas, he is just another seeker of truth.”
