Actor Ramya has filed a police complaint after facing a barrage of abuse, rape, and death threats from fans of actor Darshan, who is currently out on bail in the Renukaswamy murder case. Ramya shared the complaint on her X (formerly Twitter) account and opened up about the disturbing messages during an interview with India Today.
“It’s appalling and heartbreaking that abusing women has now become normal. The first tactic is always character assassination when a woman dares to speak up,” she said.
The backlash is reportedly linked to the ongoing case involving Darshan and actress Pavithra Gowda, who are accused of kidnapping and murdering 33-year-old Renukaswamy — a fan who allegedly sent vulgar messages to Pavithra. Darshan was recently granted bail by the Karnataka High Court, a decision the Supreme Court later criticised as “troubling.”
Ramya recalled the vile comments made online: “Some said, ‘Instead of Renukaswamy, you should’ve been killed.’ Others sent rape threats and hurled the filthiest insults. There’s no difference between what Renukaswamy did and what these so-called fans are doing. They’re even dragging children and families into it.”
She also shared screenshots of the threats via Instagram Stories and posted a letter from the Karnataka State Women’s Commission urging Bengaluru Police to act swiftly against the online abusers and stop the spread of defamatory content.
The case has sparked wider concern about the safety of women in public life and the impunity of online trolls.
