Mumbai (Maharashtra): Bollywood star Rani Mukerji, who tied the knot with acclaimed filmmaker Aditya Chopra in April 2014, revealed why the couple has kept their wedding pictures private for over 11 years. Speaking exclusively to ANI, Rani explained that the decision was driven by Aditya’s preference for privacy and their mutual wish to shield personal moments from public scrutiny.

A private wedding and family life

Rani Mukerji said, “My husband is a very private person and I think he wanted the wedding to be very private. So obviously I don’t think he’ll ever want the wedding pictures to be out.” When asked jokingly if fans would have to wait until their silver jubilee to see the pictures, she laughed and added, “Maybe! Actually, that’s a very good idea.”

Since their wedding, Rani and Aditya have maintained a low profile, making only a handful of public appearances together. The actress stressed that keeping her personal life separate from her film career has always been a conscious choice.

“I think I was always private because my work life is different, my personal life is different. If you’ve seen me through the years I think I only make appearances when there is a reason for it. It’s not always all the time,” Rani said.

Protecting their environment and daughter

Rani highlighted the importance of safeguarding personal spaces in the public eye. “There are certain things that you need to keep to yourself because you need to protect your environment slightly. Everything can’t be for everyone to see because we’re already so exposed. I feel certain things should remain private, especially regarding where you’re going, what you’re doing, and what you’re doing with your family,” she explained.

The couple has also followed this principle in raising their daughter, Adira, born on December 9, 2015. Rani mentioned that they have intentionally kept her away from the limelight and paparazzi culture to ensure a normal and secure upbringing.

A balance between fame and privacy

Rani Mukerji’s approach reflects a conscious effort to balance her high-profile career with personal privacy. Despite being a celebrated actress in Bollywood for decades, she has consistently prioritised protecting her family life, choosing when and how to interact with the public and media.

Fans continue to respect the couple’s decision to maintain discretion over their private moments, with Rani’s candid insights providing a rare glimpse into the philosophy that guides her personal life.
