Raveena Tandon’s daughter, Rasha Thadani, set the internet buzzing with her debut film Azaad, especially with the release of its hit song “Uyi Amma.” At just 17, Rasha faced both praise and criticism—while some questioned her bold choice of song, many fans applauded her screen presence and emotive performance, even ranking her above other star-kid debuts in recent years.

In a chat with BBC Asian Network, Rasha opened up about the moment she realised her song had gone viral. After promoting Azaad, she spotted the film’s poster on a billboard and rolled down her car window to click a picture. “A man on the street shouted, ‘Arey ye toh Uyi Amma hai!’ That’s when it hit me—I was being recognised,” she laughed.

Rasha credited renowned choreographer Bosco Martis for bringing out her best in the song. “He’s a genius. His team worked closely with me to get every move right,” she said.

The young actress also revealed her secret weapon—her mother’s guidance. “Mom always believed I’d become an actor. She would sit with me and show performances by legends like Rekha ji, Saroj Khan ji, and Sadhana ji. She broke down scenes, explaining the moods, the expressions—I wasn’t just watching, I was learning.”

Among the many classics, Rasha was especially mesmerised by Sadhana’s iconic number “Jhumka Gira Re”—a performance that left a lasting impression.
