Opposition legislator Ravi Ganiga has sharply criticized actress Rashmika Mandanna for allegedly declining to participate in the Bengaluru International Film Festival. He accused her of showing indifference toward the Kannada film industry, which gave her a breakthrough with Kirik Party in 2016.

Speaking at Vidhana Soudha, Ganiga asserted that Rashmika ignored repeated invitations, despite efforts by another legislator who reportedly visited her residence multiple times. He alleged that she distanced herself from Karnataka, citing her current residence in Hyderabad as an excuse. His remarks have triggered a debate on celebrities’ loyalty to their native industries.

Ganiga further questioned if the actress should face consequences for seemingly neglecting her roots. He emphasized that artists must acknowledge and respect the platforms that initially propelled them to stardom. His statements have fueled discussions on actors’ obligations toward regional cinema.

Adding to the controversy, Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar expressed disappointment over the absence of Kannada stars at the festival’s inauguration. He stressed that a prestigious film event holds little significance without the presence of its key figures.

Shivakumar also warned the Film Chamber and Academy, stating that cinema flourishes with government assistance. He hinted at potential repercussions, emphasizing that authorities know when and how to act if needed.

This controversy has intensified debates on the responsibilities of film personalities toward the industry that shaped their careers.
