KUNDAPURA [Karnataka]: Riding high on the massive success of Kantara Chapter 1, which has reportedly crossed the ₹400 crore mark at the box office, actor-director Rishab Shetty continues to make headlines—not just for his cinematic achievements, but also for his personal life choices.
The Kantara creator revealed that he and his family have moved out of Bengaluru and are now living in their native village of Kundapura, embracing a quieter lifestyle away from the city bustle.
From city lights to village calm
In a recent interview with ETV, Rishab Shetty shared how he, his wife Pragathi Shetty, and their children Ranvit and Raadya have settled in Kundapura, where the children are now enrolled in local schools.
“For the past five years, my family and close friends have been living in our village. During the shooting of Kantara Chapter 1, I realised it was difficult to stay away from them for long. So, I decided to bring them here and have them stay with me while we completed the film,” Rishab explained.
The actor also said that his family adapted quickly to the peaceful pace of village life. “We brought the kids here and got them admitted to schools nearby. They love it here,” he added.
A supportive partner in Pragathi Shetty
Rishab credited his wife, Pragathi, for being a constant pillar of support during the three demanding years of Kantara Chapter 1’s production.
“She took care of everything while I was immersed in Kantara,” he said, adding that her unwavering presence helped him focus completely on the film.
Pragathi, who has been part of Rishab’s journey since his early days, is also involved in the creative aspects of their projects, often assisting with logistics and coordination.
A decision for the future
Now that Kantara Chapter 1 is breaking records nationwide, Rishab said the family is still deciding whether to make Kundapura their permanent home.
“We’ll take a call by next March on whether to continue our children’s education here or return to Bengaluru,” he shared. “For now, we are enjoying the simplicity and calmness of village life after years of hectic city schedules.”
From humble beginnings to global fame
Rishab Shetty’s story is as inspiring as his films. He began his journey in Mumbai as a driver and office boy, gradually rising through the ranks of the Kannada film industry to become a National Award-winning filmmaker.
Reflecting on his journey, he shared a heartfelt message on social media:
“From struggling to get one evening show in 2016 to 5000+ housefull shows in 2025 — this journey is all your love, support, and God’s grace.”
Kantara’s phenomenal success
With Kantara (2022) and its prequel Kantara Chapter 1 together grossing over ₹700 crore worldwide, Rishab Shetty has cemented his place as one of India’s most influential filmmakers.
The latest instalment, Kantara Chapter 1, written, directed, and headlined by Rishab, has been praised for its storytelling, visuals, and rooted cultural themes.
Despite the film’s roaring success, Rishab’s decision to live away from the limelight reflects his grounded nature — a rare quality in an era of celebrity glamour.

As Kantara Chapter 1 continues to dominate theatres, Rishab Shetty’s return to his roots in Kundapura has struck a chord with fans who admire not only his artistry but also his humility. His story stands as a testament to staying connected with one’s origins even amidst global acclaim.
