Veteran screenwriter Salim Khan has returned home after nearly a month of treatment at Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital, bringing relief to his family, friends, and admirers across the country.
Hospital stay and steady recovery
The 90-year-old was admitted on February 17 following a minor brain haemorrhage and was initially placed in the intensive care unit for close monitoring. Doctors conducted a digital subtraction angiography (DSA) to examine his blood vessels and assess the condition without requiring surgical intervention.
As a precaution, he was also placed on ventilator support. Over the weeks, his condition showed steady improvement, and he has now recovered enough to continue treatment at home.
Family and industry support
During his hospitalisation, family members including Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Alvira Khan, and Arpita Khan were by his side. Several close associates and prominent figures from the film industry, including Javed Akhtar, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Ranveer Singh, also visited or enquired about his health.
Sources indicate that Salim Khan has resumed basic activities such as sitting up and speaking, marking a positive phase in his recovery.
Understanding the medical procedure
Digital subtraction angiography (DSA) is an advanced imaging technique used to clearly visualise blood vessels by removing surrounding structures digitally. It plays a crucial role in diagnosing and managing conditions like brain haemorrhages, especially in elderly patients, enabling precise and timely treatment.
A legacy that shaped Indian cinema
Salim Khan remains one of the most influential figures in Hindi cinema. As part of the iconic Salim-Javed duo with Javed Akhtar, he penned some of the industry’s most celebrated films, including Sholay, Deewar, Don, and Zanjeer.
His work redefined storytelling in Bollywood, leaving a lasting legacy that continues to inspire generations of filmmakers.
Recovery at home
Following his discharge, Salim Khan is expected to continue his recovery under medical supervision at home. His return has brought immense joy to well-wishers who had been praying for his health.
