Sandalwood‘s love for time-travel stories continues with Gana, a murder mystery entwined with elements of time travel. Directed by Hari Prasad Jakka, the film begins with a haunting double murder witnessed by a child in 1993. Fast forward to 2022, and we meet Ganga (Prajwal Devaraj), a journalist investigating a similar double murder case. As Ganga unravels the details of the crime, he discovers a mysterious house linked to his investigation. Within this house, he contacts Sujatha (Sujatha), a school teacher from 1993, through a landline phone, and their intertwined investigation propels the narrative forward.
As Ganga delves deeper into both timelines, he uncovers clues with Sujatha’s help, slowly connecting the murders across the years. The story has the potential to be gripping, and the premise, while intriguing, sets the stage for a suspenseful unraveling of truth.
Unfortunately, Gana fails to capitalize on its unique premise. Despite a compelling storyline, the execution falters, with lackluster cinematography and editing that make the film feel outdated. The background music adds little to the experience, and the technical aspects of the film could have been much stronger.
While Prajwal Devaraj and Ravi Kale deliver convincing performances, Vedhika and Yasha Shivakumar’s characters lack depth, leaving much to be desired. Despite some strong performances and an engaging premise, Gana struggles to reach its full potential, making it a missed opportunity in the time-travel thriller genre.
