Former Indian tennis star Sania Mirza has spoken candidly about one of the most difficult phases of her life — the period following her divorce from Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik. In an emotional revelation, she shared how filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan stood by her during a panic attack and helped her stay composed.
Speaking on her newly launched YouTube talk show, Serving It With Sania, where Farah appeared as the first guest, Sania recounted a moment when she felt completely overwhelmed.
“I don’t want to mention it on camera, but there was a moment that was one of the lowest moments when you showed up on my set and I had to go on a live show after that,” Sania told Farah. “If you had not come, I was shivering. And if you would not have come there, I wouldn’t have done that show. You told me, ‘No matter what, you are doing this show.’”
Farah responded by recalling how distressed Sania was during that episode. “I got so scared. I had to shoot that day, but I just left everything and came in my pyjamas and chappals,” she said, adding that being present for her friend felt more important than anything else.
The filmmaker also praised Sania for managing parenthood with dignity despite going through emotional turmoil. Sania has been raising her son, Izhaan Mirza Malik, largely on her own since the separation.
Sania married Shoaib Malik in April 2010, and the couple welcomed their son in 2018. In January 2024, the two confirmed their divorce, after which Shoaib went on to marry Pakistani actor Sana Javed
