Singer-composer Shankar Mahadevan is overjoyed as his collaborative band Shakti, alongside Zakir Hussain, clinched the prestigious Best Global Music Album award at the 2024 Grammys. Taking to Instagram, Shankar shared snapshots from the event along with a heartfelt message of gratitude.

In the images, Shankar can be seen proudly holding the Grammy trophy, radiating sheer happiness. In his caption, he expressed his disbelief and profound gratitude, stating, “WE DID IT. I never imagined that a band from which I learned my musical foundations would be the very band with whom I’d stand to win a Grammy. This moment is beyond my wildest dreams. Shakti was a dream turned reality! Thank you, Almighty, for this incredible journey! It’s truly ‘THIS MOMENT.'”

Upon posting, Shankar’s fans inundated the comment section with congratulatory messages. One user wrote, “Heartfelt congratulations to all of you. What a moment of pride,” while another expressed, “You truly deserve it, sir.”

During his acceptance speech at the Grammys, Shankar expressed his gratitude, saying, “Thank you, boys. Thank you, God, family, friends, and India. India, we stand proud because of you.” His acknowledgment of the nation sparked a thunderous applause from the audience. Shankar also took a moment to thank his wife for her unwavering support. “Lastly, I dedicate this award to my wife, to whom every note of my music is devoted,” he added.

Shakti, comprising guitarist John McLaughlin, percussionist V Selvaganesh, and violinist Ganesh Rajagopalan, triumphed over fellow nominees such as Susana Baca, Bokante, Burna Boy, and Davido at the ceremony. Their album ‘This Moment,’ released on June 30 the previous year, captivated audiences worldwide.

In an exclusive interview with Hindustan Times, Shankar expressed his elation about the historic win, stating, “To be among world-class international artists, represent our country, leave a musical imprint as Indians, and be recognized for it filled me with immense joy. Representing India on such a platform was a moment of immense pride for me.”

The 66th edition of the Grammys took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Monday.
