Bengaluru: Several new Kannada films spanning crime, social drama, corruption, romance and the struggles of aspiring actors have been announced, with projects featuring established names as well as emerging talent.
Among the films are Bail, starring Shiva Rajkumar, Hulibeera, which focuses on migration and rural revival, Trikaram, a corruption-and-family-secret drama, and Surya in Gandhinagar, which explores the challenges faced by an aspiring actor in the film industry.
‘Bail’
Bail follows retired police commissioner Viji, whose quiet life is disturbed by the arrival of a young man.
Haunted by an unresolved case from his past, Viji finds his family facing a serious threat. Instead of relying on physical force, he uses his experience, authority and investigative skills to uncover a deep-rooted network of corruption.
The film centres on his efforts to unravel the truth and deliver justice for a case that has remained unresolved for years.
The cast includes Shiva Rajkumar, Sanjana Anand, Jayaram and Gopalkrishna Deshpande.
The film is directed by Pavan Wadeyar and produced by KVN Productions.
‘Hulibeera’
Hulibeera explores the impact of migration on a village that has gradually lost its educated and talented young population.
The story follows a carefree young man who decides to take action after witnessing how the migration of educated people has affected his village.
His efforts eventually develop into a grassroots movement aimed at encouraging young people to return and rebuild their community.
The film stars Rural Anjan, Chaithra Thotada and Rangayana Raghu.
Madarangi Mallikarjun is directing the film, which is being produced by Sai Star Cinemas.
‘Trikaram’
Trikaram revolves around a villager who routinely takes on corruption while also pursuing his love interest.
His seemingly ordinary life takes an unexpected turn when the woman he loves mysteriously prompts him to investigate a disturbing truth.
The investigation leads him towards a dangerous family secret and puts him in a perilous situation.
The film features Harshavardhan Kesari, Nischitha Shetty and G. Ganesh Murthy.
It is directed by Dileep Kumar JR and produced under the banner of Sadguru Cine Production.
‘Surya in Gandhinagar’
Surya in Gandhinagar follows Surya, a young man who travels to Gandhinagar with dreams of making it big as a film star.
His optimism, however, is tested when he encounters industry politics, broken promises and the realities of trying to establish himself in the competitive world of cinema.
As he struggles to find opportunities, Surya must navigate the challenges without losing sight of who he is.
The film stars Gururaj Ankola, Neha Basavaraj, Annapoorna Tholishetti, Shylesh Kengeri and Krishna Gowda.
Gururaj Ankola is directing the film, which is being produced by Guruking Dreams Films.
A diverse slate of Kannada stories
The four projects explore distinctly different settings and themes. Bail combines an unresolved case with corruption and justice, while Hulibeera focuses on migration, rural development and the return of educated youth.
Trikaram brings together romance, corruption and a family mystery, while Surya in Gandhinagar turns its attention towards the ambitions and challenges of an aspiring actor.
With a mix of established performers and newer talent, the projects add to the range of stories being developed in Kannada cinema.
