Hyderabad: Veteran Kannada actor Shivarajkumar has revealed that he almost walked away from the much-anticipated film Peddi after being diagnosed with cancer shortly after agreeing to join the project. The actor shared the emotional details during a promotional event, explaining how a major personal health challenge nearly forced him to leave the film.

Despite the uncertainty surrounding his treatment and recovery, the makers of Peddi chose to wait for him, ultimately ensuring that he remained part of the project.

Shivarajkumar loved the script from the beginning

Speaking about his association with Peddi, Shivarajkumar said he was immediately impressed by the story narrated by director Buchi Babu Sana.

According to the actor, he was so excited about the project that he discussed it with lead actor Ram Charan on the same day he heard the narration. Convinced by the story and his character, he quickly agreed to come on board.

In the film, Shivarajkumar plays Gournaidu, a powerful and influential figure whose role is expected to be central to the narrative.

Health diagnosis changed everything

Shortly after committing to the film, Shivarajkumar received a cancer diagnosis, a development that significantly impacted both his personal and professional life.

The actor travelled to the United States for treatment and recovery, creating uncertainty regarding his ability to fulfil filming commitments. Given the situation, he seriously considered withdrawing from Peddi to avoid causing production delays.

The health setback came at a time when preparations for the film were already underway, making the decision particularly difficult for the actor.

Makers waited for his return

What ultimately convinced Shivarajkumar to remain associated with the project was the support shown by the film’s team.

Rather than replacing him, director Buchi Babu Sana and the production team reportedly assured the actor that they were willing to adjust schedules and wait until he was fit to return.

The actor expressed gratitude for the confidence the makers placed in him during a challenging period. He noted that the team’s patience and encouragement played a significant role in his decision to continue with the film after recovering.

Their support allowed him to complete treatment and eventually resume work on the project.

Peddi gains momentum ahead of release

The film has been generating significant buzz ahead of its release. Directed by Buchi Babu Sana, Peddi is described as a rural sports drama exploring themes of identity, empowerment and community pride.

Alongside Ram Charan and Shivarajkumar, the film stars Janhvi Kapoor in a key role. The music has been composed by A. R. Rahman.

The film has already received a major boost after the Andhra Pradesh government approved special premiere shows beginning on June 3. Authorities have also permitted a temporary increase in ticket prices during the initial theatrical run.

Premiere screenings in Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to begin at 8 pm, with premium pricing approved for both single-screen theatres and multiplexes.
