India’s World Cup-winning cricket star Smriti Mandhana on Thursday confirmed her engagement to Bollywood music composer Palash Muchhal through a choreographed Instagram video, ending months of speculation about the couple’s relationship. While the video did not disclose any wedding date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi later revealed that the two will marry on 23 November 2025.

Mandhana, who recently played a pivotal role in India’s triumphant Women’s ODI World Cup campaign, shared the announcement in a light-hearted and visually striking reveal that quickly captivated social media.

Instagram reveal featuring her India teammates

In the now-viral video, Mandhana appears alongside teammates Jemimah Rodrigues, Shreyanka Patil, Radha Yadav and Arundhati Reddy, performing a coordinated routine to “Samjho Ho Hi Gaya” from the 2006 film Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

The clip ends with Mandhana stepping forward and showing her engagement ring — confirming long-running rumours.

Muchhal, who has composed music for multiple Hindi films and albums, had vaguely hinted at the wedding last month at an event in Indore, saying Mandhana would soon become the “daughter-in-law of Indore.”

PM Modi confirms wedding date

While the video sparked the initial excitement, it was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s congratulatory message that provided the biggest update.

In an extended note addressed to the couple, Modi praised Mandhana’s cricketing achievements and Muchhal’s musical talent, saying their partnership would be a blend of “a cover drive and a musical symphony.”

He then confirmed that the couple will tie the knot on 23 November 2025, transforming the engagement reveal into one of the biggest sports-entertainment crossovers of the year.

Celebrations follow World Cup glory

The off-field celebrations come on the heels of Mandhana’s spectacular performance in India’s historic Women’s ODI World Cup win in Navi Mumbai last month.

India defeated South Africa in a tense final to lift their maiden world title. Mandhana was the tournament’s top run-getter, scoring 434 runs in nine innings, the highest tally by any Indian batter in a single edition of the Women’s ODI World Cup.

Her consistency with the bat, particularly in pressure matches, earned widespread acclaim and cemented her position as one of the finest batters in world cricket.

A year of personal and professional milestones

With a World Cup trophy, Player-of-the-Tournament accolades, and now an engagement followed by a confirmed wedding date, 2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for Mandhana.

Fans, teammates and celebrities have flooded social media with congratulatory messages, celebrating both her cricketing triumphs and this new chapter in her personal life.

As the countdown to November 2025 begins, Mandhana and Muchhal’s union is set to be one of the most talked-about celebrity weddings in the country.
