Mumbai: India women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana reappeared on social media on Friday, marking her first public post since her wedding with music composer Palash Muchhal was unexpectedly postponed on 23 November. The couple’s ceremony was halted after Mandhana’s father, Srinivas, suffered a sudden medical emergency and had to be admitted to a hospital in Sangli on the morning of the wedding. A day later, Palash too was hospitalised. Both have since been discharged, though neither family has announced a fresh wedding date.

Mandhana’s first post since wedding postponement

Mandhana’s return came through a paid partnership video with a popular toothpaste brand. The ad featured her speaking about her emotions upon lifting India’s maiden Women’s World Cup trophy. While the video seemed routine, fans quickly noticed one detail — the absence of her engagement ring.

Screenshots and clips of the post circulated widely, fuelling speculation about the timing of the shoot and whether the video was filmed before her engagement. Several fans urged restraint, noting that such promotional content is typically pre-recorded well in advance and released later as per brand schedules.

Social media chatter grows

The discussion intensified when users pointed out that Mandhana had removed all wedding-related posts from her Instagram profile. As the observations grew, her comments section filled with questions, concerns and debates about whether the missing ring signalled deeper issues.

A number of fans also commented on a change in her voice in the video, expressing concern for her health and hoping she was recovering well after a turbulent two weeks.

Families reiterate: postponement was due to health emergencies

Despite the online buzz, both families have repeatedly emphasised that the postponement was solely the result of medical urgencies. In an interview with Hindustan Times, Palash’s mother, Amita, described the emotional strain the situation placed on both sides but remained confident that the wedding would take place soon.

Similarly, Palash’s sister, singer Palak Muchhal, told Filmfare that the families had faced intense public scrutiny after the postponement. She acknowledged that the emotional toll had been heavy but said everyone involved was focusing on patience, positivity and the recovery of their loved ones.

A private moment under public glare

Mandhana, one of India’s most recognisable sportspersons, has largely stayed away from public engagements since the incident. While Friday’s Instagram post was commercial in nature, its timing brought her back into the spotlight and reopened conversations among fans eager for updates about the rescheduled ceremony.

For now, both families have chosen to stay private, focusing on health and recovery. Until an announcement is made, speculation is likely to continue — though those close to the couple continue to insist there is no trouble beyond the unforeseen health setbacks that paused their celebrations.
