The late Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan, left an enduring legacy as one of India’s exceptional cricket captains, taking charge at the tender age of 21 and leading in 40 out of 46 tests. Despite losing vision in one eye due to a car crash, Pataudi showcased remarkable leadership skills. His cricket journey, marked by significant achievements, concluded in 1975 after a West Indies tour of India.
Recently, Soha Ali Khan, accompanied by her actor-husband Kunal Kemmu and daughter Inaaya Naumi Kemmu, visited the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground during their vacation in Australia. The official Twitter account of the MCG shared a picture of the trio, highlighting Soha’s exploration of the ‘hallowed turf’ where her father once played.
Reflecting on her visit, Soha took to Instagram, stating, “On his birthday, we remembered and celebrated Abba by visiting one of his favorite places to play – The Melbourne Cricket Ground.” She shared an anecdote about Pataudi’s memorable innings at the MCG in 1967-68 when India was struggling at 25 for 5. Despite a pulled hamstring and the need for a runner, Pataudi’s gritty 75 not outplayed a crucial role in India’s total of 162. This innings earned him the 14th spot in Wisden Asia Cricket’s list of the top 25 Indian test innings, described as “An innings played with one leg and one eye.” Soha concluded her post with a heartfelt birthday wish to her father, saying, “Happy birthday Abba.”
