Mumbai: Actor Sonam Kapoor is set to make her much-awaited return to the big screen after dedicating the past few years to family life and motherhood. The Bollywood star, who welcomed her son Vayu in 2022, said her comeback will focus on meaningful, layered roles that align with her long-standing vision of choosing stories centred around strong female characters.

Focus on family before films

Speaking about her journey, Sonam told The Times of India, “I became a mother and wanted to give it as much time as possible – so that I could witness the process of seeing my son grow up. I wanted to enjoy the feeling of being a mother and it has been the most rewarding experience of my life.”

The actor emphasised that her decision to take a break was a conscious one, ensuring she could cherish her early years of motherhood without professional distractions.

A meaningful comeback

Her return, she said, is not just about appearing before the camera again but also about continuing her pursuit of powerful storytelling.

“Now, I will be back to doing what I love doing – acting. I’m being drawn to disruptive subjects that allow me to shine. I have always tried to pick projects with the girl at the heart of the story and that vision hasn’t changed,” she said.

Sonam revealed that her first project after pregnancy will begin production in the last quarter of 2025.
