Bollywood star Sunny Deol, set to appear in Jaat, has advised Hindi film producers to take inspiration from their South Indian counterparts on how to create cinema with passion and dedication.
At the trailer launch of Jaat, produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory, Deol praised the production values of South Indian cinema, stating that they prioritize storytelling, trust their directors, and focus on quality.
“They make films with love. I wish Bollywood, or rather Hindi cinema, followed the same approach. In the South, the story is the real hero, and they go all out to bring the director’s vision to life,” said the 67-year-old action star.
Reflecting on the changing dynamics of Hindi cinema, Deol pointed out that earlier, producers believed in a film’s story, but with the entry of corporates, filmmaking became more commercialized, leaving true storytellers behind.
“The South retains its cultural essence, making its films pan-India hits. We need to return to our roots, just like my films Ghatak, Damini, and Arjun did,” he added.
Hinting at future collaborations, Deol even joked about settling in the South. He also expressed interest in playing complex roles if given the right script.
The action-packed Jaat, co-starring Randeep Hooda, Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, and Regina Cassandra, releases on April 10 in Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.
