Actor Tamannaah Bhatia is maintaining her composure despite the ongoing uproar over her appointment as the brand ambassador for Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Limited (KSDL). On Sunday, she took to Instagram and shared a couple of posts, signaling her unaffected stance.
Tamannaah, known for her Bollywood work, was recently named KSDL’s ambassador for their soap products. In one Instagram Story, she posted a stylish selfie sporting an animal print outfit, layered necklaces, and sunglasses — without any caption. Her next post was a warm birthday greeting to filmmaker Karan Johar.
The controversy started when pro-Kannada groups in Bengaluru protested, demanding that Tamannaah be removed as the face of the state-run brand. Reports say she was offered ₹6.2 crore for this association.
Karnataka’s Minister for Large and Medium Industries, MB Patil, addressed the issue, recognizing the dissatisfaction among locals but emphasizing that the matter isn’t about language or regional pride. Instead, he said it’s about boosting Karnataka’s products nationally and internationally.
Patil explained that Tamannaah’s 2.8 crore social media followers made her the best choice. Other popular Kannada actresses were unavailable or financially out of reach, according to the minister.
Though appointed officially on May 22, the backlash persists, with many insisting that a Kannada actor should represent the iconic Karnataka brand.
