Hyderabad (Telangana): The Telangana High Court has dealt a setback to the makers of Pawan Kalyan’s highly anticipated film OG, by suspending the state government’s order that allowed a ticket price hike for the movie. Written and directed by Sujeeth, the film also stars Emraan Hashmi, Priyanka Mohan, and Arjun Das in key roles.
Court suspends government order
The suspension comes in response to a petition filed by Barla Mallesh Yadav, who challenged the government’s decision to permit higher ticket prices for special shows and premieres. The Telangana government had allowed an increase of ₹100 in single-screen theatres and ₹50 in multiplexes.
Speaking about the verdict, Barla Mallesh Yadav said, “We have challenged the memo issued by the Principal Secretary Home, Telangana, in which the government has given the rights to hike the cinema tickets. These are against the norms of GO 120 issued in 2021, against judgments given by this honourable court in the 2020 bill, and even the recent ‘Game Changer’ case. The court has directed that the government should not allow further hikes.”
Context of ticket price hikes
Price hikes are a common practice for high-budget Telugu films, intended to help producers recover production costs during the initial release days, especially for films with significant fan anticipation. However, the High Court’s verdict ensures that OG will release without any government-sanctioned increase in ticket pricing.
About the film
OG features Pawan Kalyan in an action-packed avatar, with Emraan Hashmi playing a central antagonist. The recently released trailer depicts a volatile Mumbai engulfed in gang wars and rising violence, with Emraan Hashmi’s character being the main culprit. Pawan Kalyan’s character is shown wielding a samurai sword and automatic weapons, symbolising his power to control chaos in the city.
The film is jointly produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under the banner of DVV Entertainments and is slated for release on September 25, 2025. Fans have eagerly awaited the movie, and the High Court verdict adds a legal twist to its pre-release buzz.
Conclusion
While OG promises high-octane action and intense drama, the suspension of the ticket price hike could impact revenue projections for the initial shows. The verdict also reinforces the High Court’s stance on regulating cinema ticket pricing in line with government orders, ensuring that price increases do not violate legal norms.
