Mumbai: Fans of Salman Khan’s 2003 hit Tere Naam might soon have a reason to rejoice, as reports suggest a sequel to the romantic drama is in development. The original film, directed by the late Satish Kaushik and starring Salman Khan alongside Bhumika Chawla, remains one of the actor’s most memorable performances.
Sequel plans in motion
Producer Sajid Nadiadwala is reportedly in advanced talks to acquire the franchise rights, which currently belong to the original producers, Sunil Manchanda and Mukesh Talreja. The idea for a sequel was first floated in 2020, but the discussions now seem to be moving forward at a faster pace.
A source told Mid-Day that the team plans to bring Salman Khan back, either reprising his iconic role or appearing in a new avatar. “Once the legal and financial packaging is done, they’ll lock in Salman and only then announce a director. A tentative script is being worked upon,” the source added.
The sequel is expected to blend nostalgia with contemporary sensibilities, aiming to revive the legacy of the original while appealing to today’s audiences. Sajid reportedly wants to own the intellectual property for greater creative freedom.
Salman Khan’s involvement
According to sources, Salman is aware of the project but has not yet officially committed. He will reportedly evaluate the script, budget, and rights division before taking a decision. “He is not one to commit before clarity,” the source added.
