He was a young lad who came from a film khandan and didn’t face much of a difficulty to enter Bollywood. In fact directors themselves were ready to rush to his door steps. This young lad proved his mettle in his debut film. Though success came his way in his career, his personal life has been tragic enough. That’s Sanjay Dutt.
Right since his debut film ‘Rocky’ – he has been one of the most sought after actors in the Indian film industry. Son of renowned actors Sunil Dutt and Nargis Dutt, Sanjay made his Bollywood debut in 1981. But sadly, his mother passed away just three days before the release of his first movie. Since his foray into Bollywood, Sanjay has tried his hand at different genres of movies – from comedy to romance – and has enjoyed success in all of them. At the same time, the roles of gangsters, thugs and police officers in action movies made him popular. He married actress Richa Sharma in 1987, but she later died of brain tumour in 1996.The couple had a daughter, Trisha. After Richa’s death, he married Rhea Pillai – a model – but divorced her in 2005.Sanjay then married Manyata in 2005, and the couple have twins.
The Bollywood boy was addicted to drugs at a very young age and he found an eerie solace in the drugs as he was unable to cope with the trauma of seeing his loving mother die in front of his eyes. As he got himself pushed deeper into the web of drugs his father sent him to a drug rehabilitation centre in America, where he successfully came out of the addiction.
Several films like ‘Naam,’ ‘Sadak,’ Saajan,’ ‘Vaastav’ and ‘Munna Bhai MBBS,’ brought name and fame for the actor who even won the Film Fare Best Actor Award for his role in Saajan.
However, in another unexpected turn of events took place after the 1993 Mumbai blasts and Sanjay was arrested for possessing AK-56 rifles that were reportedly sent to him by the bomb blast mastermind and mafia don Dawood Ibrahim. He even served 18 months in jails for the same before he got bail due to his father’s efforts. Although he was acquitted of any TADA (Terrorist and Disruptive Activities) -related offences in 2006, he was still charged under the illegal possession of Arms Act. The ruling is finally out on March 21,2013 and Sanjay Dutt will now have to remain bars for another three years and four months.
