Cybercrime police have arrested three individuals for allegedly creating and circulating AI-generated objectionable images and videos of actress Rukmini Vasanth on social media platforms.

The accused have been identified as Ravikumar (24), a resident of Chilakamukhi village in Bagalkot district; Chandrakanth (33), a resident of Kamakshipalya and originally from Thirthahalli in Shivamogga district; and Ranjith (25), a resident of Manjunathnagar.

According to police, the trio used artificial intelligence tools to generate fabricated images and videos depicting the actress in a derogatory manner before sharing them online.

Fake content allegedly targeted actress

Investigators said the manipulated content was designed to tarnish the actress’s reputation and mislead social media users into believing the visuals were genuine.

Police stated that the circulation of such fabricated content not only violated the actress’s privacy but also caused emotional and mental distress. Authorities added that the incident highlights the growing misuse of artificial intelligence technologies to create misleading and harmful digital content.

The objectionable visuals reportedly gained attention on social media before law enforcement agencies intervened and launched an investigation.

Growing concern over AI misuse

Cybercrime experts have repeatedly warned about the misuse of AI-powered tools to generate realistic but fake images, videos and audio recordings. Such content can damage reputations, spread misinformation and infringe upon an individual’s privacy and dignity.

Police traced the digital trail of the content and identified the individuals allegedly responsible for creating and distributing the material.

The three accused have been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway to determine the extent of the circulation and whether additional individuals were involved.

Authorities have urged social media users to verify content before sharing it and warned that creating or circulating morphed, manipulated or AI-generated defamatory material can attract serious legal consequences
