A 28-year-old private firm employee has been arrested after a 25-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at a lodge in Bengaluru.
According to police, the woman filed a complaint alleging that the accused raped her despite her objections after the two became acquainted through the social media platform Snapchat.
Friendship developed through social media
Police said the woman, who lives alone after separating from her husband, came into contact with the accused several months ago through Snapchat. The two subsequently exchanged phone numbers and remained in touch.
During their interactions, the accused allegedly assisted the woman in finding accommodation at a paying guest facility. Investigators said the friendship continued over the following months.
Assault alleged at lodge
According to the complaint, the accused took the woman to a lodge in Bhuvaneshwarinagar on Tuesday evening. The woman alleged that he sexually assaulted her despite her refusal and objections.
Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. The accused was subsequently taken into custody.
Officials said statements have been recorded and further inquiries are underway to establish the sequence of events surrounding the incident.
Investigation continues
Police have not disclosed additional details as the investigation is ongoing. Authorities said the case will proceed based on evidence collected during the course of the inquiry.
