Actor Mukul Dev, known for his versatile performances across film industries and television, passed away on May 23 at the age of 54. He had been unwell and was in the ICU for the past few days. Mukul is survived by his brother, actor Rahul Dev.

Vindu Dara Singh, who co-starred with Mukul in Son of Sardar, confirmed the news to India Today. “He was keeping to himself after his parents passed away. He wouldn’t step out or meet anyone. His health deteriorated recently and he was admitted to the hospital. My condolences to Rahul and all who loved him. He was an amazing person and will be dearly missed,” said Vindu.

Actor Deepshika Nagpal, a close friend, shared an emotional tribute on Instagram, recalling their frequent chats in a WhatsApp friends group. “He never spoke about his health. I’ve been calling his number, hoping he would pick up,” she said.

Mukul Dev’s career spanned over two decades in Hindi and Punjabi cinema, television serials, and even regional films in Bengali, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu. He made his Bollywood debut in 1996 with Dastak, portraying ACP Rohit Malhotra opposite Sushmita Sen.

He also left a mark on television with shows like Mumkin (1996) and Doordarshan’s comedy countdown show Ek Se Badh Kar Ek. He earned accolades for his role in Yamla Pagla Deewana, including the prestigious 7th Amrish Puri Award for excellence in acting.

Born in Delhi, Mukul Dev’s quiet charisma and range as an actor made him a beloved figure in the industry. His passing is a significant loss to Indian entertainment.
