Mumbai: Veteran actor Satish Shah, known for his remarkable comic timing and memorable performances across television and cinema, passed away at the age of 74 on Saturday, October 25, in Mumbai. According to reports, the actor had been battling a kidney ailment and had recently undergone a kidney transplant.

His personal assistant, Ramesh Kadatala, confirmed the news to PTI, stating that Shah died at his residence in Bandra East in the afternoon. “It seems he passed away from a heart attack; however, we are awaiting the final reports from the doctor about the reason behind his death,” Kadatala said.

Known for his iconic comedy roles

Satish Shah’s contribution to Indian entertainment spans over four decades. He rose to fame with his versatile roles in the 1984 sitcom Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, where he famously played 55 different characters, showcasing his exceptional range and comedic genius.

He became a household name with his portrayal of Indravadan Sarabhai in the cult-favourite sitcom Sarabhai vs Sarabhai, which remains one of the most celebrated Indian television comedies.

Filmmaker Ashoke Pandit took to Instagram to share his condolences, writing: “Sad and shocked to inform you that our dear friend and a great actor Satish Shah has expired a few hours ago due to kidney failure. He was rushed to Hinduja Hospital where he breathed his last. A great loss to our industry. Om Shanti.”

Director Madhur Bhandarkar also mourned the actor’s death, saying, “I’m deeply shocked to hear about the demise of the talented actor Satish Shah sir. On the big screen and television, he entertained us with his diverse roles and outstanding performances. My deepest condolences to his family and admirers.”
