Celebrating his birthday today, Vijay Deverakonda is best known for his breakout role in Arjun Reddy (2017), though he first appeared in Nuvvila (2011), which also featured Yami Gautam. Despite gaining fame later, Vijay remains proud of his debut and even sent a DVD to this writer, insisting it showcased his potential.

Interestingly, Arjun Reddy was initially meant for Sharwanand, but only came to life after Sandeep Vanga brought in Vijay and his brother agreed to produce it. The film ignited both acclaim and outrage, especially over its perceived misogyny. Vijay, distancing himself from the character, clarified that he doesn’t condone such behaviour. His philosophy? “Live peacefully. Harm no one.”

In his 13-year career, Vijay has done two uncredited cameos—in Kumbalangi Nights and Jathi Ratnalu, the latter as the “blue-shirted guy,” reflecting his love for the colour.

Though close to his family, Vijay is mostly a loner, often taking solo European trips. He doesn’t drink, even while portraying an alcoholic. “How would I act if I was actually drunk?” he asked.

He refused to reprise Arjun Reddy in Hindi, believing remakes feel emotionally forced. His Hindi debut, Liger, unfortunately flopped, leading him to cut ties with director Puri Jagannadh.

Despite criticism, Vijay believes cinema should reflect all facets of life—including its darker sides. In Dear Comrade, his anger turned towards workplace harassment, not just of women but men too.

Vijay remains grounded, loyal, and determined to use cinema as a force for change.
