Veteran Bollywood star Govinda, known for his unmatched comic flair and dance moves in the ’90s, is now set to pass the baton to the next generation — his son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, is preparing for his big-screen debut.

In a candid chat with ETimes, Sunita Ahuja, Yashvardhan’s mother and Govinda’s wife, opened up about his upcoming entry into the film industry. She shared her pride in her son’s dedication and also offered crucial advice: “Don’t copy Govinda.”

Sunita explained, “Yash is training hard. He dances well, acts well, and is truly passionate about cinema. He often shares scripts with me and we discuss concepts at home.” She believes he must step out of his father’s shadow to create an identity of his own. “I told him, you must develop your own style — not be limited by Govinda’s image. I’m confident he’ll carve out a name bigger than his father’s.”

Govinda, though absent from the limelight for a while, remains a legend for blockbuster hits like Coolie No. 1, Hero No. 1, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. His last film, Rangeela Raja (2019), didn’t fare well, but his legacy still resonates with fans.

Before stepping in front of the camera, Yashvardhan worked behind the scenes, assisting on projects like Dishoom and Baaghi. His debut is expected to be with National Award-winning director Sai Rajesh, in a Hindi remake of the Telugu film Baby. Initially also starring Babil Khan, the project is currently on hold after his exit.
