‘India has no national language, but Hindi stands as second language’

Mangaluru: India does not have one national language, still Hindi stands as the second language that too as an official language, said Bank of Baroda Mangaluru branch General Manager Nagaraj.

He was addressing the gathering after inaugurating Hindi week celebrations organised by the Hindi Association of the University College Mangalore, in association with the PG department of the evening college and library, here on Tuesday. Nagaraj claimed that there is no difference between Raja bhasha and Rastra bhasha. He expressed concern on the reading habit and emphasised the importance of the newspaper by saying that ‘no other media can replace it’.

Bank of Baroda Deputy General Manager Ramachandra spoke about the wide opportunities available with Hindi. Presiding over the function, Principal Dr. Udaya Kumar M A stressed on the importance of the mother tongue, which cannot be replaced. “Don’t follow shortcuts in life but just wait for the right moment. Otherwise, you will have to feel guilty throughout your life,” he said.

‘Samvidhan- A making of Indian Constitution’ film directed by Shyam Benegal was shown to the students which highlight the importance of the Hindi language.

Hindi department Head Dr. Nagarathna Rao, senior professor Dr. Suma TR, Librarian Vanaja and others were present.
