Mangaluru: The ‘International Day for Biological Diversity’ was celebrated by the Centre for Environmental Studies, Yenepoya University on May 23rd 2015.
The activities of the day included planting of sapling (Aphanamixis polystachya) by Dr. P Chandramohan, Vice Chancellor, Yenepoya University. An exhibition displaying 130 plants of 62 varieties including some rare, endangered, threatened, sacred and medicinal species of Western Ghats were displayed by the Forest department, Mangalore division, Government of Karnataka.
A guest lecture on biodiversity of Western Ghats was presented and plant photographs with description were displayed by Mr. Dinesh Nayak, Advisor (Green Belt), Mangalore SEZ Ltd.
A competition on “Birds of Yenepoya University campus” was organized and prizes were distributed by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor.
A slide show on the photos of the competition was exhibited. Dr. Bhagya B. Sharma, Assistant Director, Centre for Environmental Studies, welcomed the gathering and coordinated the programme along with Mr. Vasanth, Horticulture Assistant, Yenepoya University. Dr. C. V. Raghuveer, Registrar, Yenepoya University, Prof. M. Abdul Rahiman, Former Vice Chancellor, Kannur & Calicut Universities, Mr. Mahammad Bava P, Finance Officer, Yenepoya University and Prof. K. P. Jayarajan, Controller of Examinations, Principals of constituent colleges, staff & students attended the programme.
