Mangaluru: The Postgraduate Department of Social Work, St Aloysius College organised an Awareness programme on “Organ Donation” on July 20 at L.F. Rasquinha Hall, LCRI Block.
Dr Patricia Viego, co-ordinator, ‘Jeevanasarthakathe’, Bengaluru, Organ Donation & Transplant Co-ordinating Agency, Karnataka State was the guest speaker. The principal of SAC, Rev. Dr Praveen Martis SJ presided over the programme.
Addressing the students, the Principal said, “Life is a gift given by God. We have to connect with each other and take care of each other as responsible human beings.” He also stressed that the students vouch and to do real service for others as one can live even after death by donating organs. When we are alive, we can do something for others. Organ and tissues are needed to save others’ lives. Hence, pledge to donate organs after your death, he added.
Dr Loveena Lobo, Director of the Maffei Block, introduced the guest and briefed the gathering about the programme. She also narrated the importance of organ donation.
Roshan Monteiro, Assistant Professor, compered the programme. Gerald D’Silva, lecturer, proposed a vote of thanks.
