Change should begin at home to protect women: Advocate Asha Nayak

Mangaluru: Department of Master of Communication and Media Studies (MCMS) of St Aloysius College organized an Awareness Programme on “Women Safety’, for the students of UG, PG and the public, on March 17, 2016.
Women safety is recognized as a challenging issue as the years pass by. The condition of women in India has always been a matter of grave concern. The event was focused on building awareness and challenging each individual to defend oneself in times of crucial issues.

Advocate Asha Nayak, Senior Lawyer and Ex Chairperson of Child Welfare committee in her speech stressed saying, “women must have convictions and stand up when there are crimes against them. Support those women who are victimized rather than ignoring them. Above all women should defend themselves with will power or else no reservations can save them.”

Dr AM Narahari, Registrar of St Aloysius College, Mangaluru, the President of the event said that, “we keep amending the constitution in India again and again, shows there is no safety for women.”

Advocate Asha enlightend the students with conviction saying when migrant students go in choosing the hostel, enquire whether the hostel is licensed or unlicensed, check the registered list with the ID proof, approach the police authority directly than sending anonymous letters in case of danger.

The session was very interactive and educative.

Through the audiovisual message the newly elected Mayor of the city Harinath encouraged the students to use corporation helpline in dangerous situations and assured his support.
