Mangaluru: On December 9, the Father Muller Oncology Centre celebrated its 10th year anniversary.
The theme for the celebration was “Cancer Awareness”.
The day’s programmes began at 9 am with the inaugural function. The Chief Guest for the day was Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte University and the Guest of Honour was Dr. Ibrahim Nagnoor, Community Oncologist from Yenepoya Medical College. The inaugural function was presided over by Rev. Fr. Richard Coelho, Director, Father Muller Charitable Institutions.
During the inaugural function, Dr. Hasib A G Professor and HOD, Department of Radiation Oncology, briefed the gathering on the evolution of the Father Muller Oncology Centre, highlighting the achievements over the last 10 years.
Following the inaugural function, Dr. Ibrahim Nagnoor addressed the school and PU college students and enlightened them about the importance of awareness of cancer, its methods of prevention and early detection.
Various events were organised for the day. They included, drawing and essay writing for the school children in Examination hall block B, a debate for the PU students at the Knowledge Centre, and an oncology quiz for the MBBS interns at the Decennial Memorial hall.
24 schools from in and around the city of Mangaluru, took active part in all the events. A total of 82 students participated in the drawing competition, 24 students participated in the Kannada and 36 in the English essay writing competition, 8 students participated in the debate and 28 students participated in the oncology quiz.
The events were conducted between 11 am and 4 pm and all the participants were provided breakfast, lunch and evening snacks.
The valedictory function began at 4 pm, where a documentary on the Father Muller Oncology Centre was showcased following which, the winners of the various events were announced and awarded cash prizes by the Dean, Dr. J P Alva. All the participants also received participation certificates. The valedictory function was concluded by singing the National Anthem.
