She was participating online in the ‘Vishwa Hindi Divas’ celebrations held jointly by the Hindi Association and PG Department of Hindi of University College Mangaluru at Shivarama Karanth Sabhabhavana on Wednesday. Hindi Divas is being celebrated on January 10 since 2006. Currently, Hindi is spoken in over 20 countries, she added.
Principal Dr Harisha A said that Hindi has won the hearts of common man, even in non-Hindi speaking states, through Hindi film songs. Hindi Association Vice President Dr Nagarathna Rao welcomed the guests. PG Department of Hindi Coordinator Dr Suma T R explained the significance of Hindi Divas. Amita compered the ceremony. Dr Sanjeev Kumar, Jyoti, Dr Nagarathna Shetty and Rashmi of Hindi department were present.
Competition, prizes
To promote the Hindi language, a Hindi calligraphy competition was organized for the teachers. Vidya Kishan Alva of the Commerce Department, Dr Bharathi Prakash of Microbiology department and Aruna Kumari from the Physics Department won first, second and third prizes respectively.
Shravya, a Hindi MA student who cleared KSET was felicitated. Mahalaxmi and Yashaswini of First year BA were awarded for participating in the online competitions. Prizes were awarded to Roopa Pereira, Pallavi and Romita who won the first, second and third prizes respectively in the quiz.
