Mangaluru: Konkani Manyatha Divas was celebrated at Milagres college on 21 August 2018 to recall the day when Konkani language was introduced into the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution.
Inter school and inter college folk singing and dance competition were held as part of the celebration. Programme Convener Prem Moras welcomed the gathering and briefed the struggle behind the inclusion of into the 8th schedule of Indian Constitution and the significance of Konkani Manyatha Divas.
Chief Guest of the program Roy Castelino, Former President of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy spoke about the life of our ancestors and life of present Konkani-speaking families.
Milagres College Principal Fr. Michael Santhumayor was the President of the program. He spoke on importance of learning Konkani in schools and colleges.
Students of various colleges who secured highest marks in Konkani language were awarded prizes.
Neslin D’Souza, Co-convener proposed the vote of thanks, Ivin D’Souza and Ashwin Fernandes compered the programme.
