Udupi: Konkani was added in the eighth schedule of the Indian constitution on August 20, 1992. The date, August 20, 2018, marked the 26th anniversary of the occasion and in this regard, a celebration was held in the Milagres College Audio Visual Hall, Kallianpur near here by the AICUF.
Prof. Melwin Rego, HoD of Sociology presided over the celebrations.
Dr. Gerald Pinto was the guest of honour. He told the students to pass on the Konkani language and tradition to the next generation. Prof. Rego lauded the work of the students and advised them to organise the Konkani Festival for the next language recognition day and also assured his help.
On the occasion, an exhibition of Konkani Culture and poetry writing contest were organised and the winners were given prizes.
In the poetry contest, Lavita Cardoza of I B Com came third, Sahana Prabhu of III B Sc came second and Renita D’Souza of II B Com stood first.
President of AICUF Vijeth D’Souza welcomed the gathering. Raina of II B Com introduced the guests. Secretary Lloyd Lewis proposed a vote of thanks and Melisha D’Souza of II B Com compered the programme.
