Shivamogga: Two professors from Kuvempu University are listed among the world’s top 2 per cent scientists by the prestigious Stanford University of the United States of America. Dr. B. J Girish and Dr. B. E. Kumaraswamy are the professors, who have brought this distinction to the varsity as Stanford University has recognised the duo for their contribution along with other 2040 Indian scientists.
The list was prepared by Jeroen Bass, Kevin Boyak and John P. A. Ioannidis, the research team members of Stanford University in collaboration with Elsevier. Subsequently, a database of the world’s top 2 per cent of scientists was released on October 19 and is freely available on the Internet. The team analysed as many as one lakh scientists globally based on their research publications, citations, transcripts, h-index, co-authorship, citations to papers and international research. Consequently, the list that has two categories, lifetime achievers in career and achievers in 2021, was prepared based on 22 Science subjects and 176 sub-disciplines.
Mathematics Associate Professor of Science Dr. B. J. Girish who has secured 54804 among scientists in 2021, has published research papers on topics, Engineering, Applied Physics and Mechanical Engineering, while Industrial Chemistry Department Assistant Professor Dr. B. E. Kumaraswamy has secured 165713th rank.
This year, 2042 Indian scientists are in the list while in 2020, 1,900 scientists made it to the list, out of which 114 scientists were from the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.
