Mangaluru: The department of Pediatric Nursing of Laxmi Memorial College of Nursing, A.J. Towers, Balmatta, Mangaluru observed the International Kangaroo Care Awareness Day on May 15th 2015 at A.J. Hospital and Research Centre, Kuntikana, Mangaluru with a view to create awareness among the mothers regarding the proper technique of Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC). Dr. Amitha Rao, Professor, Department of Pediatrics, A.J. Institute of Medical Sciences, was the chief guest cum resource person and she addressed the mothers regarding the importance and benefits of kangaroo mother care. Dr. Larissa Martha Sams, Principal, L.M.C.N. presided over the function. Dr. Santhosh T. Soans, H.O.D., Department
of Pediatrics, A.J.I.M.S. and Dr. Theresa Leonilda Mendonca, Vice-Principal, L.M.C.N. were present during the occasion. Ms. Cleyona, 3rd year B.Sc. Nursing student demonstrated the technique of kangaroo mother care followed by a video show regarding the benefits and advantages of kangaroo mother care. Mrs. Nisha Lobo, Assistant Lecturer welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Pamela, Assistant Lecturer delivered the vote of thanks and Ms. Joyline, Junior Lecturer compeered the programme. The mothers also snacked on nutritious refreshment.
