Lourdes School holds Cooking without Fire for Classes IX & X

Mangaluru: As a pedagogical initiative, Lourdes Central School introduced Cooking without Fire, an art-integrated-project for Classes Ix & X. CBSE has introduced Art Integrated Learning to create joyful classrooms and imbibe the Indian ethos through the integration of Indian art and culture in the teaching and learning process at every level.

This year the pairing of States and Union Territories for the state of Karnataka is with the Union Territory of Ladakh. Lourdes Central School chose the theme Cooking without Fire for classes IX and X, a group activity, to be assessed as part of the Subject Enrichment Activity in all subjects. It was held on 1 July in their respective classrooms from 8.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. The aim was to provide a platform for students to showcase their talent and explore new areas of interest.

English: Explaining the recipe – speaking skills    

Hindi & Kannada: Writing skills 

Maths: Quantitative analysis

Science: Nutritional value

Social: Geographical location where the crops are grown, and slogan writing

IT: To write the recipes in Word file and test their typing skills

Art: Table setting

Life Skills: Sharing, caring, group dynamics, interaction, communication, 

Cooking

Students made foods traditional to Karnataka and Ladakh. The evaluation was based on taste, hygiene, presentation, and the unique traditional name of the dish. The students prepared healthy dishes like Kashmiri Kahwa Tea, Kaju Diamonds, Karnatic Dravidian Salad etc. and served the dishes artistically and aesthetically.  The students enjoyed the project work and it taught them valuable life skills.
