Mangaluru: The Manipal Centre for Biotherapeutics Research (MCBR) and the Manipal College of Pharmaceutical Sciences (MCOPS) of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) have jointly hosted a transformative workshop titled “Technical Approaches Involved in the Purification and Characterization of Biomolecules.”

This pivotal event took place from 4th to 10th December 2023 at the MAHE Campus in Manipal. The workshop was organised under the DST’s STUTI scheme, in collaboration with the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. Dr. Ratnesh Jain, the Coordinator of the DST-STUTI program at ICT, played a key role in conjunction with MAHE to bring this workshop to fruition in Manipal.

The inaugural ceremony, held on 4th December at the Dr. PGR Conference Hall, MCOPS, was graced by Lt. Gen. (Dr.) MD Venkatesh, the Vice Chancellor of MAHE. Dr. Vadiraja Bhat from Agilent Technologies honoured the event as the Chief Guest. Prof. (Dr.) Raviraja N S, Coordinator of MCBR, extended a warm welcome to the esteemed guests and participants.

This intensive workshop drew many participants from across India, offering hands-on training over seven days. It focused on practical skills in biomolecule purification and characterisation techniques. Participants received training on monoclonal antibody (mAb) purification using the ÄKTA Start protein purification system, alongside the Agilent–1290 Infinity II Bio LC System for mAb characterisation. A series of lectures also covered a wide range of topics, from recombinant protein expression to genomics, transcriptomics, and their clinical applications.

Notably, experts from renowned academic institutions and industry leaders from Agilent Technologies, Cytiva, Thermo Fisher Scientific, Biocon, Qiagen, and Kemwell Biopharma contributed to the training sessions, enriching the learning experience.

The event culminated in a valedictory function, featuring welcoming remarks by Prof. (Dr.) Raviraja N S, an address by the Chief Guest Dr. B S Satish Rao, and speech by distinguished Guest of Honour Dr. C Mallikarjuna Rao. Participants shared their valuable feedback, followed by the distribution of certificates and mementos. This workshop has significantly fostered collaborative learning and exchange of knowledge in the field of biomolecule purification and characterisation.

Dr. Souvik Dey, the Organizing Secretary of the workshop, delivered the vote of thanks, marking the successful conclusion of this landmark event.
