Milagres College’s Bhasha Sangam inaugurated

Mangaluru: Bhasha Sangam 2018, a one day multi-lingual national conference on language, literature and culture was inaugurated at the Milagres College, Mangaluru by Dr. Vincent Alva, Principal, Milagres College, Kallianpur on February 24.

In his keynote address, Dr. Alva said that every language has words from other languages. “A non parliamentary word from one language makes us violent but the same word in another language makes us silent, because of the way it is presented. That’s the beauty of languages. Even though a person is well versed in a language and can speak without the help of words from other languages, he still prefers to use the mixed language to make the communication easier. Languages should interface but you should not forget your source,” he said.

Dr. A Lourdswamy, one of the resource persons of the event, quoting various incidents, said that the knowledge of languages was a key to success. “We are blessed to be in this part of the world where many languages are spoken by almost all of the people because of the need of communication”, he added. He also said that body language was also a good means of communication and urged the attendees to learn more and more languages.

Fr. Valerian D’Souza, Correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, in his presidential address, said that language is that one thing which brings people spread across the globe together and makes them feel comfortable. He urged the students to learn English for global communication needs.

Fr. Micheal Santhumayor, Principal, Milagres College welcomed the gathering and Conference Convener Nayana K explained the purpose of the event. Dr. Mamatha N R proposed a vote of thanks.

The full day event had paper presentations and technical sessions in Konkani, Hindi, Kannada and English on different subjects through various resource persons and subject experts.
