Mangaluru: The Mangalore University Annual Special NSS Camp 2018-19 was held at Loretto Aided Higher Primary school, Lady of Loretto Church, Bantwal from November 22 to 28.
Inaugurated the camp, Rev. Fr. Elias D’souza, Parish Priest of the church told the NSS volunteers to work sincerely and take up the responsibility of developing the society. Rev. Fr Francis Assisi Almeida, Advocate Bishops House, Mangaluru said that NSS volunteers should develop themselves by serving the society and being good citizens by imbibing good values and setting an example for the rest.
The principal of Milagres College, Rev. Fr. Micheal L Santhumayor presided over the function and delivered his presidential remarks.
Prof. Lourdusamy, Academic Advisor, Milagres College, Mangaluru, Sr. Edoline Rodrigues, Headmistresses Loretto Aided Higher Primary school, Richard Menezes, Vice president of Lady of Loretto church, Irine D’souza, Amtady Gram Panchayat member, Bantwal, Nikhil Martis, NSS programme officer, were present on the dais.
The NSS camp was kicked-off with a flag hoisting ceremony and was followed by breakfast. Following this, all the groups began their clearing work plantation work at the camp spot by assisting the workers.
On November 25, the educational survey calculation of surrounding houses was done by the NSS volunteers. On November 26 the volunteers removed plastic waste and created awareness on cleanliness and hygiene. A guest lecture was arranged on personality development, legal awareness, the importance of first aid and organ donation. A practical session on fire and safety measures was also conducted.
In the evening, the volunteers planned a cultural programme and spend their leisure time in sports. Later, the groups presented a short cultural programme followed by an evaluation of the day. This was followed by dinner.
The valedictory of the camp was held on November 28. Rev Fr. Johnson Sequeira, Headmaster Loretto English Medium High School, Rev Fr Valerian D’souza correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, Ronald D’souza, former president APMC Bantwal, Harish Shetty Padu, president Amtady Gram Panchayath Bantwal, Mohammad B, P.D.O Amtady Gram Panchayath Bantwal, Cicilia Pereira, vice president Milagres Parish, Ivan Fernandes , secretary Milagres Parish and Laveena Lobo, PTA President Milagres College Mangaluru, were the dignitaries of the day.
