National Education System will be implemented step-by-step: Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya

Mangaluru: The government has given its nod to fill the vacant SC / ST backlog posts (HK) and teaching / non-teaching vacancies in the university, said Mangalore University Vice Chancellor Prof. P Subrahmanya Yadapadithaya. He also added that the pending teaching and non-teaching faculty promotion will be considered under priority.

Presiding over the 42nd Foundation Day and Teachers’ Day celebration held at Mangala Stadium on Wednesday, he said that a Tulu Grama’ will be developed within the campus of the university within the next Foundation Day as per the advice of Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr. Veerendra Heggade.

A hostel for SC/ST girls will be built spending Rs. 4 crores. Building a hostel for boys is also under consideration. Ambedkar Bhavana and Pareeksha Bhavana will also be built. Belapu Science Centre work will be finished by next March. The centenary celebration of Yakshagana Study Centre will be planned soon. Sports facilities will be increased under public-private participation. Free mid-day meals will be provided for the eligible students from next month onwards. The canteen will be converted into a ‘food court’. “The National Education Policy will be implemented step-by-step without pressure on anyone,” he added.

Chief Guest, REVA University Vice Chancellor Prof. V G Talawar said, “The institution’s ranking plays a role in employability of the student. The competency of the institution has become a hallmark of development. “Implementation of NEP-2020 is not easy. The mentality of the teachers has to change. Quality, commitment, and competence should be the core,” he added.

TCS Limited HR Department General Manager, F. Israel Inbaraj said that the teaching profession is noble as it converts the common man into intellectual property. “We need to make students not employers, but employees. Knowledge should be gained and we should know its application as well.”

Academic Achievers like Mangalore University retired professor of Biosciences and UGC-BSR Faculty Dr. K R Sridhar, Mangalore University Professor of Chemistry Dr. Vishalakshi B and Computer Science Professor Dr. B H Shekhar were felicitated. The teachers and students of the Physical Education Department which was conferred with the ‘Kreeda Poshak Award’ by the Government of Karnataka for the year 2019-20 were felicitated. A team of 12 students from MGM College Udupi was honoured with the award, trophy, and cash prize for winning the championship at a university-level competition held at Noida. Dr. Devdas S Nayak was also present.

Prof. Ravishankar Rao and Dr. Dhananjaya Kumble mastered the event. Registrar Pro. Kishore Kumar welcomed the guests. Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. P L Dharma, Financial Officer Prof. Narayana B, Dean of Science, Arts and Commerce respectively Dr. Manjunatha Pattabi, Prof. Udaya B and Prof. Muniraju Y, DSW Director Prof. Manjula Shantharam, Director of Physical Education Dr. Gerald Santhosh D’Souza and others were present.
