NHRC sponsored training program on human rights held at St Agnes College

Mangaluru: The Political Science Department, St Agnes College (Autonomous) conducted “NHRC Sponsored One Day Training Programme on Human Rights”.

The college has taken the initiative to organize One Day Training Programme on Human Rights in order to sensitize students/NGO’s on Basics of Human Rights.

The Seminar was inaugurated by Hon’ble Justice D.H.Waghela, ChairPerson, SHRC, Karnataka (Former Chief Justice High Court of Karnataka, Odisha and Mumbai) and Guest of Honour Sr Dr Maria Roopa A.C. Joint Secretary, St Agnes Institutions. Sr Dr M Jeswina A.C. presided over the programme.

Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) Chairman Justice D H Waghela termed Pulwana killing as unfortunate and a violation of rights. He stressed on the importance of Human Rights and said that it is the ‘future of politics’.

He also spoke on the need of human dignity, social justice, harmony and universal brotherhood. Justice Waghela said that even the educated lack awareness on the importance of human rights.

While the police are guilty of violating human rights, there is gross discrimination in the courts too, he added.

Justice D H Waghela was then honoured by The Principal Sr Dr M. Jeswina A.C. Programme convenor Chandramohan Marate welcomed the gathering and Ms Gayatri proposed the vote of thanks. College student Sara Monis compered the programme.

For the valedictory programme Kollady Balakrishna Rai President, Human Rights Federation of India was the Chief Guest.

A minute of silence was observed in honour of soldiers who lost their lives in Pulwana attack.
